RGB camera. Kinect has a video camera that delivers the three basic color components. As part of the Kinect sensor, the RGB camera helps enable facial recognition and more.
Depth sensor. An infrared projector combined with a monochrome CMOS sensor allows Kinect to see the room in 3-D (as opposed to inferring the room from a 2-D image) under any lighting conditions.

For those asking about the older systems being compatible, I asked my son who is a 360 nut and he said yes as long as you have updated the firmware it should play just fine :)

Kinect games are pricey, have seen some as high as $75 each--but you choose either way. So this in demand, hard to find Christmas gift could be well worth over $225+taxes I paid + FREE shipping.

My son wants one of these, but we have a 360 Arcade. Wounder if this will work with it. And you cant play Reg 360 games on this can you? You have to buy the Kinect games dont you??

Twincere- About the Truth of the Kinnect w/ the older systems:
It's NOT just the firmware.
The system comes w/ a cord or connector in the box for the Older systems.
U must use it for it to work. But it WILL work.
Seems as though XBOX really thought it through.
You NEED the cord for the older systems and they've INCLUDED it w/ the box.
If you read the back of the box it states just that.
I know b/c I got the system for my son on pcconectionsexpress.com for $149 w/ free ship no tax to florida with the old Visa Cards I won on here b4 they were banned.
Saved up for this as my son kept saying "it's coming mom". Couldn't disappoint my son who has helped our family tremendously w/ bills and food and by moving back home.

ok great then it works with mine!!!! Now just to find money for those $50 games!!!!!! lol
