Good Morning from Seattle. I can add a little information on these darling little chests. They were given to each and every female high school graduate during the late 1940's and possibly the 80's. They were given as a promotion from furniture stores that sold LANE furniture all over the US as a promotion to buy a LANE HOPE CEDAR CHEST when such chest were popular. (from small towns to large cities) There literally THOUSANDS of them out there. I still have mine. It holds all my valuables from those years. Small gifts, tokens, scores from tests, scores from taking my state boards from nursing school, etc. They are treasures to many of us and we plan to pass them down to our daughters, nieces, etc. Your post is a reminder that we should add information regarding the year and where we received them. Thank you so much for the reminder. Lora

These are nice. A local furniture store used to give them away to senior girls as a promo for Lane hope chests.

I was given one of these when my parents bought me a hope chest in 1986. It's held up better than my hope chest has! Lol! I still have it sitting on my dresser! Great auction! I'd love to get it for my daughter! :)

It could also be a salesman sample that was given to furniture stores to sell different styles of chests. I know this because my dad has been in the antique business for 50 years and I grew up in the business and we have seen miniatures of things like this many times over. They are cool.

Great auction! Love all the memories everyone have of this. I also received one as a graduating high school Senior (1970). We lived in a small town in Indiana and our local furniture store gave them as a gift to the graduating girls. Loved the smell of the cedar--it was quite a sturdy little chest (mine--which had all my Grandma's jewelry in it--got lost in a move when my stupid ex "forgot" to get my things out of the storage shed) Also had salesmen calling to sell pots and pans, china, and something else that I can't think of. Guess back then they figured the senior girls were wanting to get their household set up, not going on to college.

I call that brilliant advertising--people love to get things that mark a special event--graduating from high school is a biggie. Customer service was a lot different back in those days.

It's kind of ironic that I see this listed today when of all days I spent cleaning out my basement to throw everything out that got ruined when the slump pump went and the basement flooded. So I'm trying to salvage what very few items I can and what do I find but my little lane cedar box that I got when I graduated high school in 1977 and wouldn't you know it was in perfect condition!! No mold, musty smell, nothing! It's still perfect through all that!!

that's pretty cool--you were lucky in that respect--not counting the flooded basement, of course--what a mess!

I think this is from around 1987. It was a promo...you received one when you bought a Lane cedar chest. The furniture stores here were giving them away. Great item!
