The 1943 steel penny is a wartime issue made of steel, and coated with zinc. During World War II, copper was so badly needed for the war effort (to make shell casings) that the U.S. penny was made out of steel. Steel pennies are scarcely found in circulation but when they were being circulated it is said that many people mistook them for dimes. After the war the mints made an attempt to round up all the steel pennies which caused these coins to become even more rare. Steel pennies are an interesting piece of history and great for collectors of all ages. This would make a great first set for someone just getting interested in coin collecting. Happy bidding!
Up for grabs are six 1943 steel pennies from three different mints. There are two from each mint. I have attached a picture of the coins that I will be shipping out. The copper penny will not be shipped out due to weight limits but it does show how they compare to their sister copper cents. This item has free shipping within the United States of America.

not trying to be mean but the rarity of these coins are not as high as you would think most casual collectors as my self has close to 20 or 30 there is said to still be over 500,000 of these coins floating around out there

I'm not trying to be mean but the first definition of rare according to google is "not widely known; especially valued for its uncommonness." Most people that I know have never seen a steel penny before. Next time you see a steel penny come back in your change let me know.

some kids grow up collecting rocks . . . some pennies. these used to be something you'd see every once in awhile. I haven't seen any in circulation in over 20 years.

I wish I got them in my change too. I've been an amateur coin collector for years but never got a steel penny yet. I hope I can get this lot to and make them the first ones i my collection.
