It is a vintage Sagittarius johnjohn726. The symbols have changed over the years. Just like birthstones have changed. October used to be an opal.

I did before MS put me in the wheelchair. My nephew shot 2 deer last year with arrows. I had to buy a metal detector so he can try to find broadheads burried under leaves and dirt.

That would be my guess as well. I see abibeckham71 is familiar with Roman/Greek names and their association. A connection to, but really a very beautiful piece. I am very drawn to it regardless of who or what.

Perhaps it represents the archery aspect of Apollo, who was Chiron's ( often associated w/Sagittarius) mentor of sorts. This is a very beautiful piece.

In Roman and Greek mythology Sagitarius was always half man and half horse. No matter what the rendering, if it does not depict half man half horse I must agree with johnjohn726. Regardless of whether it was Apollo or some other famous mythological rendering, it is very nicely done and very worth having. I like it no matter who or what it is supposed to symbolize. It is a beautiful piece. I studied Latin for 5 years and all of the mythology like Homers "The Illiad and the Odessy" was drilled in my head. Like I said, call it anything you wish. Whoever the winner turns out to be can research it and may discover for certain, who this man with bow and arrow truly is. I will not say it was not intended to depict Sagitarius, only that I would never have thought of it as Sagitarius. I am watching and may bid once I see where everyone is heading with the bids.
