Description

The listing, ✰ 40+ Mother Of Thousands Kalanchoe Alligator Pregnant Chandelier Plant ✰ Another indestructible! has ended.

This plant has a lot of names! I sometimes think it's in the Plant Witness Protection Program, from of all its aliases! The botanical name for it is Kalanchoe delagoensis. It's also known as Mother Of Thousands, Alligator plant, Pregnant plant, Frog plant, or Chandelier plant. The first time I found it growing in my yard 10+ years ago, I saw the pretty but weird red flowers growing from it like teardrops in a downward pattern, rather than up to the sun, and the lovely, plump chevron patterned leaves. We called it the Outer Space plant because it grew so quickly, and seemed to just pop up overnight. So, be warned that this propagates quickly! It's a Tropical Perennial. If left on its own, outside in a sub-tropical/tropical climate, it will grow from 2' - 4' high! Indoors in containers, it also does very well. If you're in a cold climate, it will have to be moved indoors when temps drop, because it will not survive a frost. All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested. It is drought-tolerant. It is a truly maintenance-free plant! If you don't have a green thumb, this is a plant for you! They will be picked fresh before shipping. You'll get 40+ plantlets - the little babies on the end of leaves. Each time I've listed these, they've been GINned at 5,000/6,000 within 24 hours, so I'm just going to let this one run its course and see what happens

► Shazam! Be sure to check my other listings by clicking on my photo.

► I start all my listings at 24 credits! It doesn't represent the quality. I just think it's just more fun to start bidding low and watch it go high like being at an actual auction.

► Ships free in the USA from a non-smoking home. Please confirm your purchase within two days of winning. If you reply immediately, I'll toss in a FREEBIE as well!

► All Listia rules and procedures apply. If you don't know what they are, please check out this link and read the FULL page BEFORE BIDDING: http://www.listia.com/rules

Ah, they're not all loopy. I'd never get bids if I always wrote what I wanted to - lol. I try to get at least something a little silly in once in a while though. One of those nights when I'd gone *way* past loopy, and probably way past sleep too was when I posted this one: http://www.listia.com/auction/14083703-papier-mache-mushroom-to-decoupage-paint Copy the link and paste it in your browser. The auction was funny to begin with, but the comments (minus one) made the auction. ;-)

Hi there chiefhappy, and yes I certainly remember you! I check every once in a while to see if you're ever listing vintage postcards again! I'll email you and we'll discuss that. I'd certainly be up to a trade. It's my birthday weekend, so I may not get to you right away, but give me a couple of days, okay?

Yes, you can touch them. If you'll reread my auction, you'll see that I mentioned that they are poisonous if ingested, just like many other plants like Poinsettias, Philodendrons, some Cactus, Dumbcane/Dieffenbachia, Crown of Thorns, Castor Bean, Oleander, and Daffodils.

Hmmm... Not sure why either, unless they were diseased before sending. Glad to know it wasn't me that sent them to you! Just so you know, initially, they do grow slowly. Really slowly. Then, they just seem to take off overnight. Sort of like a watched pot not boiling. I wouldn't give up on the other ones you ordered yet. Good luck if you're bidding on these! ✰

One time I took one of these plants and just put it in an upright pole. It lived a really long time. I also noticed some of the babies started to grow on a piece of wood.

Thought it was great. I have never heard of this plant before or seen one. It is really neat looking from the pictures. I will definitely be watching. Will you send directions with the plantlets on how to plant them in a pot for best results? Can you put on the plantlets in one container or would you be better off separating them into several? Super cool.

Don't worry. I'd never noticed them before they sprung up in my yard one year, by a random bird or a strong wind doing it's job pollinating. It really did seem like there were just THERE one day, although they were slowly growing, but not producing those wild looking red flowers yet, so I didn't notice them. The chevron design on the plump leaves really do just sort of blend in with everything else like camouflage.

As far as planting, all you really need to do is just lay them on soil or under a *very* thin layer of soil, water them a little bit, and give them some sun. They're a succulent, so they don't need lots of water, and can survive droughts. You can put them all into one container, and separate them as they grow bigger, or separate them initially; it's all up to you. They start off slow, then zing - just take off. And yes, just to remind the winner, I do send a reminder of what to do when you receive them. Good luck with your bids! ✰
