Why didn't you cut the blocks apart?
Jul 30th, 2014 at 11:52:54 AM PDT by
Original
??? Why would I!!! They are more collectable & sought after in blocks
Jul 30th, 2014 at 12:23:53 PM PDT by
Original
Oh, anyways, that reminds me. I'm not an expert on stamps. So, when one does take a block apart, do you have to cut it with like scissors, or are they like pre-perforated, and you just kinda pull them apart? I'm thinking about getting into stamps as a hobby.
Jul 30th, 2014 at 12:31:03 PM PDT by
Original
LMAO! Perforated & can be pulled! If you desire to save 1 for a book I Suggest a specific cutter like a paper cutter!

joshweaver90834 you are not a stamp collector (phiasist) are you? To chop a block is to destroy more of postal history that is becoming more & more rare each & every day! To a true collector that is blasphemy!
Jul 30th, 2014 at 12:34:09 PM PDT by
Original
Ok, but like brand new stamps for mailing stuff, I assume they come in some sort of block? So, how do they get taken apart?
Jul 30th, 2014 at 12:46:53 PM PDT by

For use not collections!

Fanned, watching, and at the moment, I have the high bid.
Jul 30th, 2014 at 12:52:11 PM PDT by

TY & Good luck this lot would be a super start for collecting, the 2nd picture at the top the 4 are very high CV valued and from the 1890's as stated previously in a comment! They run about $45 for each block to buy from a dealer!
Jul 30th, 2014 at 1:02:58 PM PDT by

What is CV?
Jul 30th, 2014 at 1:04:20 PM PDT by
Original
CV means catalog value.
Jul 30th, 2014 at 1:07:14 PM PDT by
Original
So, what is the CV of this entire lot? Could you give an estimate?
Jul 30th, 2014 at 1:09:02 PM PDT by
Original
I am in the VA hospital right now, recovering from major reconstructive surgery, not at home & do not have them in hand nor do I have the Scott catalogues to look them up with me....
Jul 30th, 2014 at 1:22:26 PM PDT by
Original
A ruff guess & a shot in the dark with a very rounded figure The CV is well over $300! Well over!

Where did you get them?
Jul 31st, 2014 at 3:37:56 PM PDT by

Many, many places, conventions, ebay, listia, passed down from father & more...

In cash value what will one stamp cost?
Jul 28th, 2014 at 7:58:33 AM PDT by
Original
Couldn't tell you! some countries have dissolved & foreign currency I could not calculate... I know that the top blocks from El Salvador of the 2nd photo would cost about $45 to buy today from most stamp companies!!

I must admit I am so totally impressed by this auction!! I wish you the very best of luck!! Already your fan and watching :)

Do you have them labeled showing which country they come from
Aug 3rd, 2014 at 9:07:31 AM PDT by
Original
No, each stamp however you can tell from what's on them(they say which country) where they are from...
Aug 3rd, 2014 at 9:11:44 AM PDT by
Original
So, there's 404 individual stamps in total?
Aug 8th, 2014 at 8:07:09 AM PDT by
Original
Yes, 101 blocks of 4 stamps per block equaling 404 stamps in various conditions as mentioned in the listing
Aug 8th, 2014 at 1:32:39 PM PDT by
Original
In future auction could you just list a single countries stamps instead of mixing a bunch together? Do you have any Hawaiian stamps, before it became part of the USA I mean?
Aug 8th, 2014 at 5:38:51 PM PDT by
Original
Yes I have Hawaii stamps & have let only 1 go here on listia but not going to list, they are WAY too costly to list for free here on listia! Some of them can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars & as for singling out countries the auctions do not do as well as mixing them up, I have done so both ways & prefer this...

Where did you come up with the value for those El Salvadore Stamps which are postage dues. They sell for $2 per mint block on EBAY. You are correct about the date which is Late 1800s ; 1895-1899
Aug 8th, 2014 at 6:28:40 PM PDT by
Original
They are not postage due stamps & the value comes from a 2013 Scott catalogue????
Aug 8th, 2014 at 6:30:44 PM PDT by
Original
If you want to buy a fake block from eBay that are a reproduction then by all means earlhandy spend your $2 for them!

very cool auction, I used to collect Mint US stamps, plate blocks, sheets, & first day covers many years ago, just started with the blocks again a couple years ago, so these would be a treat for sure, I'll most certainly return to get in the bidding fun/action! F & W!
