The dd-wrt is almost plug and play. Depends on the configuration you want. Setup without doing anything hi-tech like a vpn or ip tunnel is really quite simple. It will get you to learn a few basics about networking that in all reality most people should decide to learn anyway. More than anything difficult its really just some terminology to learn at first. After that, a basic understanding of what your router actually does for you to protect you from the internet and common configurations we use routers at home. Dd-wrt firmware means this can be used as an access point, repeater, point to point range extender, guest wifi, and more. You can configure your wifi network to have access to the other computers in your home for file sharing and set your guest network to not have access to your other computers. And, so much much more. With OpenVPN you can put your wireless devices behind your firewall for NSA grade encryption wherever you go. And thats just the beginning. Have fun.

Thanks for the input, At minimum wireless security is turned off and should be setup by logging into the router via website ie: http://192.168.1.1 then setup a password for the router, After this wireless can be setup via the wireless tab on the internal website. So Easy setup is possible....

Bravo on providing an alternative router! I checked out the DD-WRT, poked around for a few minutes. I like it. Being Linux based you can do a LOT with it. Just so people know, this IS wireless N but NOT simply plug and play. This is for someone who want far more out of their router than just the "plug and play".
I hope my comment helps. If not, just hide it :)

Thank you, I always welcome extra Communication. And yes your correct Wireless "N" and It can be setup to be "WPS/WDS" or "PUSH BUTTON" connect, It does take a small amount of knowledge and setup to do though. Thanks.

yea i did some research and I do like the router and its setup its really nice overall all of it seems simple and the option of community based firmware is a nice option seeing ive over the past few years noticed community is better at doing the developers job xD anyway last question any trouble with multiple devices saw a few reviews this router isnt good for alot of connections just wanna get your experince?

I succesfully ran 8 devices on this for 6 months, obly trouble I noticed was more than 2 multiple streams from netflix. If you are going to stream heavily you would need a dual band router that runs both 2.4 and 5 ghz at the same time.

Yea I might need that seeing as two of the computers on our network are gonna be used for only, e gaming such as for a tera but better then what I have now which is a 3 year old g router

5GHZ is usually for streaming only, not many people use it for gamming. exclusively. but it wouldn't hurt.

I use DD-WRT on an E1200 which is a similar model to the one here. It can be used as a wireless or wired bridge as well as a simple AP. So even if someone doesn't need a new primary router, they could still use this as an extender to give greater wireless range in their home or to separate their wireless traffic by device.
