Description

The listing, Antique Costume Jewelry has ended.

The majority of the jewelry listed here is antique, left to me by my great-great grandmother who was born in 1890 somewhere in Alsace-Lorraine. I've never worn any of it, and it's been sitting in my jewelry box for far too long. So I figured I'd share it with my Listia friends in the hopes that it would bring a little happiness to a lover of antiques. Each piece here is costume jewelry with the exception of the 16th item pictured which is sterling silver.I am going to do this like a tiered auction simply because I didn't want to have to list and ship them separately, but I would like to see them all go to the same place. Bids up to 1000 credits gets one piece of jewelry, winner's choice, 1001-2000 credits gets two and so on. I have alot to say about these pieces and not much space so please check out the updates and comments for a better description. Shipping is free, tracking is included and local pick up is available.

I am new at Listia, my first time tonight, so I don't have many credits yet. I would definitely bid as high as possible to have a chance on these but I can't for now until I get more credits. Just wanted you to know they are beautiful and it would be an honor to wear them. If you don't mind what does GIN mean??? Thanks for your time.

GIN stands for Get it Now. Once you earn your seller's wings you'll have the option to list a get it now credit price so folks can win it right away. It's really a great tool when you are listing something brand new with an idea of just how much the item itself plus shipping cost you. I set my GIN's by estimating the value of the item in dollars, plus how much I'd like for the trouble of shipping it immediately (somewhere between full shipping cost and a low estimate), add those numbers together and take a peek at the "buy credits" section of the site to see how many credits I'm looking for. When I first started on listia I adjusted search results by low to high price and snatched up as many low credit items as I could to get the experience and positive feedback. Then I listed things from around the house (you can always purchase things to sell later) that I wasn't worried about getting a low amount for. On the other hand, my husband bought credits to bid with and started listing expensive collectibles right away and he's STILL managing to do great! So there are alot of ways to do things around here and you'll have alot of fun as long as you keep the mindset that this is for sharing, not profit. Good luck!

the painted one looks almost like from the era of Marie Anttoinette. I could be wrong, but that what it looks like to me and I know my jewelry costume jewelry or not. LOL! My great-great-great-great-great grandmother on my father's side had one similar to the one you have. And hers was dated back to that era!! It could be worth a lot of money then again not. I got almost $250,000.00 for mine. But, Like I said you might or might not have the real deal. The only way to find out for sure is see if a local jewelry can look into it for you. If it doesn't hold any value to it then it is costume jewelry. Just make sure you have it looked at first before you have a bid placed on it. Just giving you some useful advice.. Never know what you might have there..

Huh. I looked it up, and you're right. The c clasp without a tube hinge was used heavily in the victorian era. Were this an imitation piece, it would have a safety clasp (at least according to the interwebs, and who knows if you can trust those?) Similar ones on ebay range from $79-$290 with this one being most similar to those in the $79 range. I hope that if the winner discovers that its worth thousands they will think of me and my crippling student loan debt and throw me a bone!

You are most welcome Meggross9 Happy to be of service to you on this.. Well, the depression glass is a great find for anyone! Isn't it amazing how much someone is willing to bid up an auction when they know they have a FIND such as the DEPRESSION GLASS or AN OLD PIN WITH PORCELAIN PIECE ATTACHED TO IT?! Watch your bid will jump! Now that we have all this info up here someone else will come along and BID LIKE WILDFIRE! LOL! Or worse comes to worse you can always call American Pickers or PAWN STARS up and they will offer you top dollar for these gems seeing the era they are from and how well they are kept up! Girl you got a GOLD MINE THERE!!! You could probably get a lot of cash! Never know!!! LOL! What you think is fake could be real....

My parents still live in the boarding house great grandma built and I grew up in and TO THIS DAY they are finding antiques in the beams in the garage, the coal chute in the cellar, even BURIED IN THE BACK YARD! Great grandma was a single mother and therefore learned to use it up, wear it out, make it work or go without. These pieces could really bring in alot of money to the winner, but what I really look forward to is that somewhere down the line they will be purchased by someone who might pass them on to THEIR great-granddaughter and MY great grandma will live on through them.

I don't expect that any of these pieces are worth much, so please place your bids on the beauty of these pieces and you won’t be dissapointed. If I wanted to make money off of them I would have pawned them, but I'm not that kind of person and I don't think great-grandma was either.
And now to describe the jewelry! The first brooch is my favorite, as far as I can tell the stone is some type of plastic? But it is a pretty heavy brooch and will pull down on whatever it's pinned to. The metal has not changed colors for all the years I've had it and always had the bronze look it has here. Would make a really stunning pendant on a long, thick chain. The second brooch is much lighter, goldtone, and reminds me of something from the Avon company, but I could be wrong. My parents were not able to give me any info on these pieces except to say that great-grandma invested every penny she had into the house I grew up in (a victorian boarding house) and didn't spend much money on "trinkets," as she would have called these. So, again, please do not bid if you intend to try and get money for them. The third brooch is silvertoned and has a ring of plastic pearls in the middle that has seperated from the metal. I'm sure all it needs is a glue, but I didn't want to mess with it. The fifth brooch pictured has stones missing, but with the rest of these are in perfect condition for someone to wear, collect, or upcycle. The last pictured brooch says “sterling silver” on the back. I will likely be adding more pieces later, so I’m not gonna set a GIN.

i hear you there girl. I could have children if I wanted too, but at 49 I don't think it would be a good idea. I mean I am healthy as a dang horse and all, but this late in my life, who knows, maybe if the right guy comes along it could happen. LOL! So for now, I get to raise both of my Great-Nieces and I raise their mom since she was born, took care of my dad before he passed away from AGENT ORANGE (VIETNAM VETERAN) 15 yrs. ago May 4th of this year. my brother getting married and dumping everything in my lap to take care of instead of being a man he turned in to a total WIMP! no thanks to his new wife and her 3 kids! LOL! So that left me to take care of what is left of my family as well as dealing with an uncle in Kissimmee, Florida dying of cancer in his esophagus and an aunt that has advanced alzheimer's and is now in a nursing home because she got to violent for the family to take care of... UGH! LOL! I am sure whomever wins this lot will appreciate it with all their heart. but when you get a chance if you think you have something that may be worth something let me know I can try to get some information for you before you list it...That way you will have something else to post on the information and style as well as the era from everything the family finds.. I can do most of the leg work for you. I don't mind. I know some people that owe me favors. LOL! No problem girl I am happy to help you out any way I can just give me a hollar and I will do my best to get the information for you. Send me a pick of the next set of findings and I will get to work on it before you post it.

I hear ya, my husband and I do alot in terms of raising our nieces and nephews, too. Never had to have em move in with us, but they are still young enough that it could happen. But I guess that's what childless people are for, right? And I'm sure it hurts, but I worked with people with Alzheimers for a while and they were such a delight. The people who were sweet their whole life would suddenly turn mean while the mean people turned sweet! I had alot of fun with them, though. At their age they have a right to be violent if they want to! And yeah, some of us got hurt (they can be strong) but we'll never forget them!

I am looking through the other findings your family has found and what you have posted, A lot of it looks as though it could be real girl! Look at the backings real close, The c clasps look exactly like the one on the porcelain one.... Some amazing finds and love the old photos! You should keep those for yourself. Those are of your heritage... You can't let go of those...

Neither myself nor any of my siblings are able to have children, so the family line ends here. I love listia and the wonderful people I've met through this site and it feels good to be able to share this with them. I've tried listing antiques on ebay before and the bids never even cover the cost of shipping. As far as appraisals go, it just seems like another errand I've gotta fit into my day, you know? I'm just not classy enough for this nice stuff, gotta let it go to a family who will appreciate it.

Trust me girl! Whomever wins these prized possessions that belong to your family, should share their winnings with you if they should decide to sale them to someone who collects pieces such as this, I'm telling you girl There could be a lot of money in these items that no one really knows about including what your family is still finding too this day! I highly recommend before you post anymore items such as this to get them appraised first that way you can give the winner of any future bids all the correct paper work with prices on all the items and such as that.. One never knows what they have till it is gone.... The winner will and should share these gorgeous items with their grandchildren and pass them down through their families as long as they can and decide to share them with others who appreciate fine items such as this. What was you great grandmother's name?!
Wow I see all the information I am posting for you is getting a lot of bids! LOL! Imagine that.. Who knew I could do that for another person.. Well Once again girl I am glad to be of some service to you on this issue. Let me know what else your family finds, maybe I can help you again...;)

My great-grandmas first name was Millie, and she moved to Pittsburgh from alsace lorraine around 1900. Neither her maiden name nor the correct married name are known as she became pregnant outside of marriage and forged the marriage certificate herself with a name that may or may not have been the name of the father of her child before immigrating here. The name was further shortened when she arrived at Ellis island. But of course, this story has changed with each telling, and I'm sure I've got it befuzzled in a few ways as well. I'll be sure to sit down with my parents and do a real family tree if the winner of this auction is interested.

I just knew there had to be someone who would wear these! I've tried to get into pins and brooches but I have a bad habit of falling asleep with them on, throwing them in the washer, etc. So I learned early on that if I didn't want to ruin these I'd better not wear them!
