You are Bidding on a Vintage Bible Distributed by the White House on January 25,1941. There is alot of history in this Bible. It was given to all the United States Armed Forces on that date. It is signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt.It would be a nice Bible to own. Sorry we only ship in the USA. Good Luck & Happy Bidding!

Not given by the whitehouse, this was given out by the gideons, that is their seal on the cover, the same group that puts bibles in motels and hotels. I was a district president for many years. As with all gideon bibles they are not to be sold, but since you are "giving it away" this may be okay. The signature was a facsimile and not a true signature. This bibles were made to be given out to our service men and women and the gideons still do this today, they are not to made for someone to profit off of.

I was not trying to offend or mislead anyone or make a profit off of this Bible. I am a Christain also & I would never do anything against God or our Country. I was told that this Bible was given out by the White House to Our Troops. On the front page it says a Sacred Token from Chaplin isaiah H. Hunt.When I turned the page it says The White House Washington January 25,1941 To The Armed Forces:As Comander-In_Chief I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible To all who serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths & diverse origins have found in the sacred Book words of wisdom.Counsel & Inspiration.It is a fountain of strength & now,as always,an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul. Very Sincerely Yours. (then the signature of) Franklin D. Roosevelt & with being told it was given to the troops by the White House & this page saying To Our Armed Forces & his signature at the bottom made me think it was given out by the White House.It also says right on the inside of the cover by special request of the U.S. Military & Navel Authorities you are instructed to place your name only on the fly leaf,nothing more. On no account name your organization,post,ship or station at anyplace in this book. To do so might afford valuable information to the enemy.In looking more closely I believe the Bible was published by the Gideons but I believe it was distributed to the troops by the Chaplins with the message from the President. You make it sound like I am doing something wrong when I assure you all I was trying to do is share some piece of history with who ever found it to be interesting.I am not trying to mislead anyone or make a profit off of anyone but Thanks for the info.

You have done nothing wrong. It was an easy mistake. I found thin information on the 'Conservapedia site with regards to the bible in question:
"In his second inaugural address, FDR pledged to do his utmost by 'seeking Divine guidance.' He took that mission further on January 25, 1941, when he wrote a personal prologue to a special edition of the New Testament, which was distributed to millions of U.S. soldiers. 'As Commander-in-Chief,' Roosevelt wrote, 'I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States.' He believed that all American soldiers should have the opportunity to read the words of Christ in preparing for battle. Once, when joining those soldiers aboard a warship with Winston Churchill, FDR asked the crew and prime minister to join him in singing the hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers.' In his final inaugural address, FDR affirmed, "So we pray to Him for the vision to see our way clearly ... to achievement of His will.' "[26]

When American soldiers were landing on the beaches of Normandy, Roosevelt led the nation in prayer during a radio broadcast.

I really appreciate you taking the time to research this. It really upset me that someone thought I was trying to make something sound like something it wasn't. I am a person of morals and I really think this Bible is neat & I wanted someone to have it that would also appreciate it. It is no doubt a great piece of history & I doubt very much that the Gideons are distributing Bibles now that have a 1941 or 1943 edition. Its a great service of anyone who promotes the Bible I really can't believe someone wanted to try to turn this into something ugly.

I wish I could edit this listing but since there are bids on it you can't so that I don't mislead anyone in looking further into this Bible 20 pages in it reads Copyright 1941,by National Publishing Company 1943 edition. Bold face vest pocket pronouncing manufactured in the United States of America.

It's on the 1st side of the last page. It says: YOUR CHAPLIN
Look up your Chaplin at the first opportunity.Your welfare is his first concern,and you will find him friendly and helpful at all times.His counsel and advise will guide you in avoiding or overcoming difficulties. In many ways you can help him in his services for others. A close friendship between a Chaplin and his men preserves and promotes a fine spirit in any service unit. The Gideons
In the front it also has the Lord's Prayer,Several well loved Hymns,The National Anthems,The Star Spangled Banner. It also tells where to find help when you have different trials & Tribubulations & it goes on & on with things.

This is a very good auction item, please don't take it personal when Listia members voice their opinions or comments. It can be very hurtful and discouraging. It only natural that members of the US Armed Forces would be concerned they are sensitive and trained to be so. My family of servicemen & women would probably feel the same. But it is your property now, the thrift stores, Goodwill and landfills of garbage are filled with those same books. So you have every right to sell yours here. I usually buy my credits, so free I don't get that part, but I' think its a Great Auction item. Good Luck to all Listia land!!!!

Thank you for your comments. I will admit that I did take it personal because I felt like my integrity was being attacked for listing this item. We are very proud of the way we live our life & so very proud to be an American. If it weren't for the men & woman who fight every day for our freedmon where would any of us be? We thought maybe someone who is in the service or had been in the service would like to have this Bible for a keep sake from the past. I hope who ever gets this enjoys it as much as we have. Listia's items are considered free because alot of people get their credits from listing stuff and getting the credits for them which they in turn more or less trade those credits for different items so I guess thats why its considered free because no money has exchanged between the buyer & the seller.Thanks again for your comment I hope I haven't offended anyone.

I wasn't even born when FDR was president but I have studied alot about history (I just love it) to know that we need leaders like him to make our great country more inline with God.
