The listing, Wedgwood Light Blue Jasperware English Ashtray has ended.
A little background about Blue Jasperware. It was first produced in 1774. Wedgwood had perfected the product by 1780 and it is still produced today in an array of colors.
The choices offered by Wedgwood have a distinctly classical feel with many decorative scenes gathered from Greek mythology.
This piece is a beautiful light blue Jasperware ashtray from Wedgwood, just shy of 4-1/2" in diameter. On the underside, it's imprinted Wedgwood Made in England and the number 59. Perhaps a design or model number.
As I looked through many collections online, they were all
beautifully decorated with grape vine edging. Some of the center designs were dramatically different.
This piece is in perfect condition, but I don't have the original box. There are no chips, no repairs.
Yes, it's called an ashtray, but I can't imagine this piece of art covered in ashes as the cigarette butt is squashed in the center. Somewhere on Listia I saw the matching lighter!
Free shipping to your Listia verified address within the continental U.S. Good Luck everyone.
Great Christmas gift....the holidays are coming!
