A Real Kodak Hawk-Eye Camera!
The Boston Camera Company was the original owner of the Hawk-Eye camera until the Blair Camera Company bought them in 1890. Hawk-Eye cameras then changed hands again in 1907 when Eastman Kodak bought Blair which was then changed into a division of Kodak called the Blair Camera Division after the plant was relocated to Rochester, NY. the cameras continued to be produced as Hawk-Eyes but after the end of World War One most of these were made for premium sales only and unfortunately were not always listed in catalogues.
Some models were made in the UK from 1927-39, including models designed in and for the UK. The No 2 Hawkette was the first all plastic Kodak camera.
The hyphen was dropped from the name making Hawk-Eye into Hawkeye for later models.
1878-1929 George Eastman was one of the first to demonstrate the great convenience of gelatin dry plates over the cumbersome and messy wet plate photography prevalent in his day. Dry plates could be exposed and developed at the photographer's convenience; wet plates had to be coated, exposed at once, and developed while still wet. George Eastman died, leaving his entire residual estate to the University of Rochester. In 1949, his Rochester home was opened as an independent public museum - The International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House.
