Neat inside painted Chinese snuff bottle with solid silver filgree decoration.

2 1/2" tall including the stopper.. My best guess is that the stopper is made of coral.. No absolutely positive though..

Some of these newer bottles I have a bit of a hard time guessing the age. Think it is safe enough to say mid 20th Century... 1950 give or take a few years..

You say it's solid silver. Is there a mark saying that?

No.. There is not any kind of .999 or .925 type of stampings.. I assumed that the mark on the chinese stamp on the bottom represented the silver. I was told by the person who sold it to me that it is silver.. Mabye I should not have used the term "solid", as it could just as easily be sterling too.. Now ya got me wondering !

Hey guys and gals.. tdravs580 has me second guessing about this being silver at all since it is not stamped with a .999 or .925. .. I am looking at it much closer right now, and just not sure..

I think for those of you bidding up to this point thinking this is silver filgree, you need to stop future bidding based on that.
Future bids should be based on the fact that it may not be silver.. I should have tried to figure out that marking on the bottome before listing it..

The bidding is presently at 1510, so any further bidding needs to be based on the fact that this may not be silver.. Just base future bidding on the fact that it is a snuff bottle...

If it turns out to be silver then that will be an added bonus for you, but no further bidding based on that please !
Maybe once you recieve it you will have some luck tracking down that Chinese marking on the base.

had to ask ...do the silver parts attract to a magnet ? even a little bit ...may be plated ..is it flaking off anywhere ?

The fact that it does not stick to a magnet is a good sign. No sure thing but helps.

I was thinking too, that it can't be sterling because it would be tarnished. Solid silver is harder to tarnish, but will. So it's either solid silver or not silver at all.
