Questions & Comments
Wow, well bah-humbug to all the negative comments. Kudos to the Listia team for setting up some charity auctions. That's great! Hope your auction does well. :o) Happy Holidays!
Hi Deborah74, I actually didn't put it under christian music. It's simply under "CD." But the fact that my auction is featured, it appears in all the subcategories under music CDs. This is definitely a user interface issue--we need to better convey a featured auction has less restrictions when it comes to subcategories. Thanks Deborah74.
So, this is for Toys for Tots? Why don't you say that, and do the credits automatically go there or do you plan to donate them? I got the "Listia Blog" e-mail about the charity auctions, but as usual, Listia has failed miserably to explain exactly how this works. I donated some credits via the Charity link but I don't understand how listings work or why they don't have a specific charity category.
Hi natahoa, Yes, all credits from this will go towards Toys for Tots. It's may favorite charity! We currently don't have automated way of moving credits directly into a charity after an auction ends. We are, however, exploring that avenue as it does open up many possibilities for others to be charitable. Thank you for donation. A charity category is a good idea, I'll be sure to bring it up to everyone.
Listia's previous charity system was a total mess ... no where on the site did they explain how credits could possibly benefit charities. I understand that now, Listia is donating cash to charities based on how many credits are donated. But to promote this and other listings as charity listings really doesn't lend them any credibility. I mean, anyone could SAY they will donate the credits to charity and then not do it. Listia needs to establish an automated system, set up when you create the listing, that ensured the credits go directly to the charity.
THEN Listia needs to ensure that the seller actually follows through and ships the item. I can see all SORTS of problems with something like this. However, I do like the current system that simply lets us donate credits. I think that is the BEST solution, and perhaps Listia should promote that more aggressively. Since the first e-mail about it weeks ago, I haven't seen another whisper of information about it.
If you have any influence with the Listia management gang, give them a kick in the butt please and make sure they are making sense when they initiate things like this! Honestly, they SEEM like smart people .... LOL
Great ideas, suggestions, and concerns. I have not yet fully laid out plans for user-initiated charity auctions, but I can imagine the rules with credits would be the same as a regular auctions. Meaning, the buyer will receive their credits back if things don't go through as planned, and if it does, then the credits will be automatically transferred to the charity. I'm glad you like the new charity pages. Yes, we will be pushing more of the charities pages in the immediate future. Thanks!
Another idea is to include the charity information in the "goals" section. I personally think the goals thing is kind of hokey, but reminding people that they can earn a badge by donating would be helpful. It might also be great for Listia to offer "rewards" listings that only people who have donated to the charities can bid on.
If Listia can't do some little things like that to promote it's charity system, they shouldn't even bother with it, IMO.
@ natahoa I agree you bring up alot of valid concerns. I'd much rather donate DIRECTLY to the charity than to do it Listia or anyone else. But I do appreciate that Listia is moving in a good direction on the charity front :-)
