FREE: Error or Just extremely Rare?

The only way I can get them this clear is with my scanner and for some reason, I can't get the pictures to show larger. The backs of all the coins I have listed are the same as any other penny with lincoln memorial back. The only errors are on the front.

My mistake. Some of the coins I listed do have the memorial back, which is what i was referring to at the time. But, this one has the wheat ears and no visible errors that i know of on the back

That's what I thought too, but considering it's the only one near by the deals with them, I had no choice but to take their word for it.

I'm beginning to wish i had now, but I already listed it and got bids. Who ever bids higher will be the rightful owner. I can't back out now.

I base the value of a credit by how much i spend on shipping for each credit. If someone bids 1000 credits and it costs me $1 to ship the item, them I figure 10 credits are worth 1c. However, shipping rates are usually about the same give or take a few cents, but bids go higher and lower so I just keep a check on the average. Hope this helps

Yes, that is true. However, in my opinion, what makes it rare/error is the fact that it was stamped in that particular location. They are supposed to be stamped in a specific location on the coin and in this case, they stamped it in the wrong place. It's typing a letter and misspelling a word. Misspelling a word is an error. In this case we're talking about a coin. Errors happen all the time at the mint's, but usually different types and on different coins with different dates. The chances of finding another coin with this specific location of the S mintmark is very slim, thus making it rare. I'm not great at describing things, but I hope this helps. I do appreciate the input.

on the plus side, this 1c penny is valued (red book) at 15c-$3 plus whatever it's worth to the collector. I think it is a great coin for collectors who like coins that are "different"

This is NOT in the 2012 redbook as an error. The redbook only lists common errors such as of center stamped coins, small and large dates, double dies, etc. It doesn't list the 1943 copper penny or the 1944 steel penny either, but they are error coins that sell for $1,000's. I hope this helps.

It is an error that was made at the mint by the person who stamped it. When stamping the mintmark, they didn't stamp it in the location it was supposed to be stamped. This is not a common mistake, which makes it rare. By not stamping it in the right location, they person stamping made and ERROR. I hope this helps. I haven't seen another coin with a mintmark stamped this far out of place.

That is true. Most are very minor so they are hard to catch. Some are very noticeable, but no one thinks anything about it unless they are collectors.

Wow. I didn't expect it to be worth that. No offense, but that is like saying a $100 bill is ONLY worth $51,300. With face value of pennies only being 1c, value of $1 for a penny is extremely high. Imagine a roll of 50 pennies and each being worth $1. Thats 50c face valued worth of pennies, but $50 dollars book value. Thanks for the info
