Indian grass is a great drought-resistant grass.
Pick a full-sun location for growing your Indian grass. Part shade is okay, too. They are hardy in zones 3-9. Higher zones will require more water.
Add topsoil to the area where you will be planting the Indian grass seed. I just use regulat potting soil and it has worked great.
Sprinkle the grass seed over the topsoil 24" apart.
Add about 1/2 inch of topsoil over the seeds. Firmly press down to cover the seeds completely. Water until moist, but do not wash the seeds away.
Keep soil moist but do not overwater, and fertilize the grass about once a month.
This grass can grow 60-80" tall. In the summer you will have blue and green colors. In the fall they will start turning a pink to an orange color.
