These earrings were purchased in 1980 (OMGosh, can it be 32 years?) at Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., when the original Foucault's Pendulum was still on display there. (It was removed in 1998 to make room for the Star-Spangled Banner Preservation Project). These earrings are gold replicas of the pendulum and have NEVER been worn. (They were a gift and not really my style.) They are stamped 1/20 12K GF. They are significant in weight.
More info on Foucault's Pendulum from Wikipedia:
"The Foucault pendulum ( /fu??ko?/ foo-koh), or Foucault's pendulum, named after the French physicist Léon Foucault, is a simple device conceived as an experiment to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth. While it had long been known that the Earth rotated, the introduction of the Foucault pendulum in 1851 was the first simple proof of the rotation in an easy-to-see experiment. Today, Foucault pendulums are popular displays in science museums and universities."
