This is a gorgeous vintage/antique bracelet with safty chain locking clasp with a beautiful Art neauvou design of flowing and feathery like swirls. It is in excellent condition with very little wear. It is marked inside a cartouche of the "Whiting and Davis" Co. Established in the 1880's and most famous for there wonderful ladies purses and fabulous jewelry. I would keep this also ladies but it is to small for me. It is a 6 1/2 and ahhhhhhhhh so lovely.
Questions & Comments
Whiting & Davis Co. Mesh Bags, this dates it older than I originally thought.....as according to "Collecting Victorian Jewelry" pricing and identification..... by C.J. Bell,
it indicates that untill 1883 you didnt have to mark jewelry or anything else coming into this country, but in that year it became law with new trade aggreements that all inports be marked where they are from....mostly for tax purpose. This piece pre-dates 1883 and also coinsides with the cartouche style from that period. Approx. 1860 to just before the trade aggreements. Most likely suggest it is rolled gold as the "gold rush" came years later. Wow, should have done my homework before I listed it.....this is special folks......so please bid accordingly....thanks

Just an update for you. The hinged bangle has been around since the late 1860's. There were over 20 patents on different versions of the hinged bangle bracelet by the year 1889. Some of these were by Henry Elleau 1888, Jonas Eisenberg 1881.....and many more which can be found in the Patent Office filings. The bracelet that Whiting and Davis patented was the Hinged Cuff Double Tongue and Groove Bracelet. It was by no means the first hinged bangle bracelet. This particular style is notably a copy of a French designer Ealleau from the 1880's but was made between 1903 and 1910. And yes, dear ladies, I am a Degreed Antique Jewelry Historian.
