EA Sports aims to please both NASCAR diehards and non-fans with this installment of its NASCAR series. With the addition of a roleplaying game-like Career mode, there's much more to NASCAR 2002 than just racing. Create your own driver and car, then customize it to your specifications. You'll start off with minor sponsors paying you minor fees, but as you begin to place higher, you'll win over the big boys with their big bucks. Then you can buy improved horsepower for your car, or give a raise to your pit crew.
Career mode aside, the heart of NASCAR is the race, and this game doesn't skimp. There's a full 43-car track, with vivid crashes and damage, and effective AI, making races quite realistic. Up to four players can compete via the PS2 Multitap.
