Halloween is coming up soon and my daughter got invited to a party this year... now every time we go out we have to look at costumes... she does not know what she wants to be ... If she would decide on one character it would be so easy to go ahead and prepare / buy / through together / or maybe even just pull it out of a closet and who knows maybe it will be on listia ... that is if she will make a decision... :>

What size is she? I have a big trunk full of really neat costumes. The girls used them for dress up. All kinds of dresses and witch stuff.

My five year old son has a very sweet looking face. Last year for halloween he dressed as a ghoul with his hair slicked back and colored grey. the ghoul costume was like a long robe, but there was nothing feminine about the costume. I painted his face white with grey under the eyes and cheeks and his lips were black. He looked great. Everywhere we went treating, the people continually called him a her. But since they were saying things like, "oh, look how scary she looks...give her another candy!" He never said a word. Finally, I asked him, "Honey, did you notice the way people keep calling you a she?" He said, "Yeah, did you notice how they keep giving my extra candy!" We both laughed and "she" kept on getting extra loot!

Hello again-
Another great and entertaining auction !!
My mother really gets into Halloween.
She goes all out decorating the house and all then
She does herself up like a wicked witch and site on a chair
Amongst all the other decorations - she sits as still as can be
and kids come walking up to the house commenting on all the
decorations and "how real that witch looks". Once the kids are
Close enough she springs to life with her wicked laugh and all
And scares the day lights out of the kids and the parents!! -
Some have ran all the back down the driveway to the street!
Haha- I'm laughing just writing this. She is in her comin up on
70 yrs old and still gets into Halloween just as much as she did
Years ago.

Wonderful story. I remember dressing in a neon green floor length gown and walking around the neighborhood giving apples out of my bag, had a long green wig that went with the gown.

My favorite decoration as a kid was a sound activated ghost that i named Spooksters, we got him when i was 5 or 6 and i would drive my parents up the wall as i would set Spooksters off soo often. They had to turn him off for days to get silence. I am now 21 and Spooksters still works and is in great condition

Those are really fun! Got a picture of frankenstein that hangs on the wall that talks when you walk by. He yells "Hey, What you going!!" Even if you know its there it still makes you jump.

I can remember when I was a kid (many, many years ago) when we went trick or treating we always got so much candy .... I do not think that as many people participate in the giving as they use to, my own kids never got near as much candy as I use to get when I was a child... :<

An Item I always used for scaring dinner guests was white candles. Not just any ordinary white candles. these were bleeding candlesticks. they look normal and white on the outside but once you light them they bleed a blood red color. and the best part is they are cheap and found at most halloween speciallty stores Ive got quite a few more favorites to add

Halloween memory, when I was a kid and went trick or treating there was an older lady who lived several blocks away and I always made sure to go to her house every year because when you went up to here she had suckers stuck down in a decorated box so that the sucker part was up and the end of the sucker was down inside the box. When you choose your sucker if it had a colored dot on the end of the stick then you won a large full size candy bar.... so much fun... :>

That is a very neat idea. Something like that would be great at a Halloween church party or a trunk or treat.

One year when my kids were little, I decided not to give out candy, but to give out pennies and nickels I had saved for a few years! WOW! Was that a mistake! The word got around quickly that I was giving out handfuls of money and kids were lined up at my door. Of course, I couldn't keep straight who had already been there for the treat so I had many, many repeat customers! I never did THAT again!

Another memory! When I was in high school, I helped my mother pass out goodie bags for Halloween(you could afford to do that THEN) Needless to say we didn't have enough made up so I stood there at the door making up bags laying everything on the wide window ledge to stuff into the bags. Later when my father went to light his pipe he couldn't find his matches which he always kept ON THE WIDE WINDOW LEDGE! To this day I wonder what happened when that goodie bag with the matches in it was opened up! I STILL FEEL GUILTY!

Great auction! Several years ago, when my kids were small, I got the brilliant idea to dress my youngest child up as a Christmas tree. So, I dressed him up in green and made him stick his hands out and hung ornaments everywhere on him. Poor baby, it decided to snow (we lived at that time in Oroville, WA), and he nearly froze to death, because of course he couldn't put a coat over the ornaments and I didn't think to put one under his "costume". What can I say, I'm a California girl, we're not used to snow.

story #3 Giant bat decoration: I bought a giant bat decoration a few years back, it has a wingspan of 2 feet atleast. I was taking it to hang on my porch and i noticed all my animals were staring at it. I decided to have a little halloween prank fun on them. I stopped for almost 30 seconds before making the bat suddenly swoop down at them all. the cats were like "whatever" and walked off. my dog on the otherhand freaked out. barking at it, I couldnt keep it in the same room as the dog with out him running away barking

I live in the second largest city in Washington. Seattle is the largest. We have so many churches and community centers and Shopping malls that host parties and hand out treats that we really don't get the kids any more. Grand kids and neighbors are about the only ones we get now. So sad, but it is safer for the kids.

Love this auction idea :) One year on Halloween when I was about 6 my mom dressed me up as a beautiful witch with a custom made witch hat all glitter. I loved that witch hat. That year it POURED down rain. My poor sparkly hat was ruined. From what my mom says I was so upset that people were giving me extra candy that year :) All I remember about that Halloween was my awesome hat, lol!

My fave Halloween was when i was 21, dressed up as Vampirella for work at a pizza place in the Bay Area - coach John Madden (Oakland Raiders at the time) came in after a winning game and asked me why I wasn't workin the SF streets that night LMBO! He had one pitcher of beer and left me $20 because I smart mouthed him back (didn't know who he was at the time)

Favorite prank item: Grow in Water: Spider.
Story: I had one that i put into a cup of water in my car and I forgot about it. ended up finding it overflowing the cup to the point I had to break the cup. I decided to take it in to work (fast food) I eventually got a great prank opportunity on a coworker. (no i did not expect this to work) I placed the fully grown spider (about 5 inches across) on her shoulder (I thought it would fall off, and this was in full view of customers who just started giggling but no one said a word) But it ended up staying in place, she barely glanced down to see what i did and saw the giant spider out of the corner of her eye. SHE FLIPPED OUT. spider went flying across the way. Everyone got a great laugh out of it. customers and the coworker included. unfortunately the same cannot be said for the spider. it lost most of its legs in its flight to freedom.

He was soooo cute, but he said he'd NEVER do that again. Poor baby! lol. And yes, Oroville is beautiful country, and that year was (I was told) one of the coldest winters in 25 years! Imagine, our first winter, and one of the worst for the area. But, we had hugs and hot chocolate and he warmed up right away. 3 years of snow was enough for me, came back to sunny Southern California! Yes, I'm a wuss!
