Listia Support » Creating a Custom Subcategory
Custom subcategories help create more descriptive listings and improve the browsing experience. Users can opt to create custom subcategories that better categorize their listings. Over time, the most commonly used custom subcategories will be evaluated and may be added to our fixed subcategories.
To use this tool, simply go to the Create a Listing page. After selecting a category, you will see the Subcategory drop down menu. If no existing subcategories are relevant to your item, you can click on "Create Your Own" and enter your own custom subcategory.
Once you have created the custom subcategory and finished your entire listing, click "Submit" and you will find your new subcategory in your listing page. All users will have the ability to use your custom subcategory for their future listings.
For example, under the 'Music & Instruments' category, you will only find the fixed 'CD' and 'Records' subcategories. If you had a guitar, there would not have been a subcategory relevant to your listing unless a custom subcategory "Instrument" was created.
NOTE: Custom subcategories are optional and are for descriptive purposes only. Custom subcategories are to help better categorize your listing and any misuse of this tool is not allowed. This includes the creation of custom subcategories that:
- Represent profile information (e.g. "100% seller feedback", "Free Shipping")
- Duplicate existing categories (e.g. "Video Games" should not be created under "Computers & Networking", since there's already a "Video Games" category)
- Contain irrelevant words/phrases (e.g. "Bid with confidence", "Fast shipping")
- Contain misspelled words (e.g. "Guitarss")
- Describe the seller (e.g. "Fast Shipper", "Top Seller")
Listia reserves the right to remove listings if we find users misusing this tool. Any abuse of this feature will and can result in partial or permanent suspension.
