England would in the 1960's switch to the decimal system from the old pence, shllings and pound system (1, 3, 6, 12, 24 36 pence coins, 10 shilling note, 1 pound note (a system based on three like inches feet and yards). The old stamps had a "d" after amount as in these stamps. Later stamps have "p" in place of the "d".
