Description

The listing, Craig's Box of Crap (+ iPhone) has ended.

Hello Listia Community!

I'm listing an odd auction here to see how it goes... this will essentially work like Woot's Bag of Crap with some alterations to comply with Listia rules.

Here's the deal:

1. The contents of the box will contain the value of at least $5.00 in the form of a gift card.

2. There will be at least five craps in the box. (A 'crap' is an item).

3. There will be an iPhone in the box. The iPhone will boot, you can see the 'slide to unlock' screen. There are things wrong with it. Nothing more will be said about the iPhone (don't bother asking).

4. If you ever wanted to "Get Started with Windows 98"... boy is this the auction for you...

5. Dinosaurs

6. If auction reaches 4000cr, a special item will be added. The special item is not living. The special item is not a dinosaur. I'm keeping my dinosaur...

Ok, so here's where this auction gets a little different... I want to try and encourage community participation, so ask questions about the box (i.e. "how much does the box weigh?" "take a picture of this part of the box", etc.), and, as long as it doesn't give too much away about it, I'll answer...

The winner of the auction gets the box but also gets the opportunity to fill the box with their own crap and re-list it. The box has six sides; I have adorned one side with my beautiful illustration of dinosaurs. The winner of the auction will have the option (and is encouraged) to relist the box with their own crap and draw on it's side.

Since there will probably be requests for more pictures, etc., I'll post them to my external site:
http://web.me.com/cnorton/Site/Blank.html

Happy bidding everyone! I hope this encourages some community activity like there was when the site first opened...

I hate mystery auctions but since this is "Craig's box of crap + iphone" it's not entirely a mystery. I do have a few questions but there are 10 days so my first question is:
What is the volume of the box? remember it's (h*w*l=v) and show your work for full credit. I actually am just curious about the dimensions to see how much I could stuff in it to relist if I won (and a little revenge to make you do some work for making us write haikus! haha)

Nothing wrong with a little revenge :)...

Unfortunately, you didn't tell me what units you wanted it in so I'll assume you meant pennies.

lwh for the box is 9x9x9 pennies for a total volume of 729 pennies^3.

About how many man hours would a reasonably competent American computer techie required to fix everything in the box?

Well I don't think much of it is broken. The iPhone is a bit messed up but I've seen people on Youtube fix the iPhone problem completely in under 5 minutes ---> IF YOU HAVE THE MATERIALS <--

Good question! That depends on how bored I get before the auction ends. If I draw some dinosaurs, I'll include them. Warning: Dinosaur drawings rated PG-13 for simulated blood and/or violence.

Are a computer techie or an engineer?

Hmm... interesting question.
I'd say an equal mix of both; I like to build stuff (i.e. nerf gun hooked up to air duster cans = win [see: video].
I know Pascal and a bit of C++ so I'd consider myself a bit of a computer techie as well.

I don't even know where to start with this one... here's some info though:

wow, I honestly thought there was not one single person in the world besides me and my husband that has this sense of humor. I do believe I just broke every single grammar rule in that first sentence... would it be possible for you to put a little color into the dino picture on the side? I think it's a little dull in black and.....well, box. It's not doing much for me.

nice!! I always wondered what those little plus boxes were in the comment box....now I know. I "fanned" you too, and just to let you know, I had no idea what woot was, so I googled it. Very. very. cool. site. If you have sparkly stickers you could probably apeal to more of the "ladies"....I just said that in my head and it sounded just like McLovin. I'm intregued with the iphone.....I'm pretty handy, and my husband has a great set of little tools that he uses for fixing computers.....definately watching!! I won't ask any questions about it since you specifically said NOT to, see, I'M listening.

if you don't find this particular auction fun you are more than free to not bid on it. Jeez, if a person can't have fun GIVING things away, what has our country come to!?!? As long as it falls in the bounds of what the do allow why are you complaining about it piccilo? Move on, we are having fun, and you are quite honestly being a turd in the punchbowl....

Do we have to continue with the dinosaur themed mural on the outside of the box? Or can we graffiti-ize it with whatever?

Very interesting. I generally dislike mystery auctions also, but I'm glad you gave some information as to what's inside it! I would love to pass the box along as well. I have a lot of items from deal a day sites including woot that I can stuff in it. :)

My question: Does "Dinosaurs" count as one item (like a group)? Or do you have multiple dinosaurs which count as 2 or more items?

Anyway, great auction! At least I don't have to press F5 every second while trying for a Bandolier of Carrots! ;)

Yeah same... I wanted to have some fun with the auction but wanted to keep some of it a mystery. At least with this you're guaranteed five bucks and an iPhone.

I'll be honest about dinosaurs... they just refer to the drawing on the box... and I like dinosaurs. There is no dinosaur in the box. I'm keeping my dinosaur - his name is Thomas. He is a brontosaurus. Feel free to ask more questions about my pet brontosaurus named Thomas.

I DO need ipod cables Eco.....I mean the 7 or so ipods we have strewn about the house means that we SHOULD have 7 or so....however I can only find 3....one of which I am including in the ipod listing I have running.....now, if your box of crap gets more bids than my ipod I will be seriously bummed....

Can you open the top of the box and take a "distance" picture so that we can sort of see what's inside without revealing too much? Please specify at what distance the shot is taken from in pennies of course. That is the standard form of measurement for this listing, correct?
