Not sure if you're aware, but aftermarket car seat products (like infant inserts that did not come with that specific seat) are incredibly unsafe and potentially deadly to use. :( They do work great in strollers, bouncers, and swings, though! :)

I don't know if you're trying to be helpful, or not. but i'll say this. I think having a baby floppy in a car seat b/c it has no inserts, is deadly. I think that if these are considered unsafe in a car seat, they'd be considered unsafe in all seats. and finally, I think all loose material can constrict a baby and be deadly, and I would hope the parents would monitor the status of their baby any time using these devices.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I can't figure out what your angle is for posting this. I've read the latest issues about these inserts, but I know I, and many other parents, still find them valuable. And I also think it's bunk that they're considered 'okay' for bouncies and strollers but not car seats. Any baby left in anything unattended other than flat on their back in a safe crib can be deadly.....in my opinion.

If a baby is strapped in correctly, having no inserts is perfectly safe, which is why a lot of carseats don't come with inserts. The reason these are not safe is because they are aftermarket. The ones that come with seats were crash tested with that particular seat, but the ones that can be bought separately in stores are not crash tested, so you dont know how they will act in a crash. Also, they compress in an accident and can cause the straps to be more loose than you originally thought and can possibly even slide under the baby during a crash, which could be dangerous. A lot of the aftermarket inserts can also alter strap placement.

The reason they are perfectly safe to use in bouncers, strollers, and swings is because those are not intended to be life saving devices. Adding strap covers, aftermarket covers, inserts, puffy coats, etc. to those things will not alter their use. If you use any of those things in a carseat (unless they came with the seat), it alters how the seat will act in a crash.

My reason for posting this was so that parents will know to use this in a stroller, bouncer or swing, but not to endanger their child by putting it in a carseat.

thank you for the information - the reasons you list are valid.

I still chose to use them when my baby was floppy b/c their heads roll down and can cut off access to the windpipe and die. which is why babies should sleep in bouncies and swings and car seats, etc.

That being said I have left my babies sleep in those, and used these inserts in car seats, and other potential hazards, minus stuffed animals in the crib, loose bedding, etc. I feel each parent chooses the risks they are comfortable taking.

so I disagree about the magnitude or likelihood of non-OEM parts causing death, versus other factors and uses, but I appreciate you informing people viewing/bidding on this auction.

I'm sorry to jump into this discussion but I just felt the need to say, contradiction, that I wouldn't worry, BC in fact, when our daughter was born 5 weeks early, not only were we required to go buy an insert for our car seat BC the Dr wouldn't release her from the hospital "just strapped into the standard car seat" BC in was largely inadequate, & on top of that the NICU actually took some of the nursery blankets, rolled them up and basically barricaded her into her seat so that she would pass her car seat test. In high sight, there were a ton of foreign objects in her seat with her, & although I rode in the back w/her to watch her every breath, if it weren't for an insert such as one of these, my beautiful baby girl wouldn't have been nearly as safe! :) just sayin.... Great auction! Best of luck to you you, dear!

thanks for sharing sweetie. I agree that most car seat safety tests were not performed while non-OEM inserts were in the seat, but I disagree at them not being safe - for the most part. and in instances like you mention, it's even imperative. I didn't use inserts on my first and I freaked watching his little head loll everywhere.
