Description

The listing, Vintage Art Dish Bowl Ashtray Possibly Italian Glass Cranberry to White has ended.

This bowl measures about 7" long and about 5" wide. It is about 2 1/2" high at the highest part.
The color goes from white to cranberry with seed bubbles and flakes, all over
The glass is very thick
This piece weighs about 2 pounds
It is in excellent condition--no chips or cracks.

I have looked at a lot of Murano glass and. I think this piece is authentic but I can't be sure because it is not marked and I am not an expert.
The marks or inclusions in the bottom of this dish are actually inside the glass .

Thanks! I spent hours looking at murano glass, similar to mine. I thought it might be but since I am not an expert, I really hate to maybe mislead someone. I have been fooled before, even when a piece has a sticker! So, now I just take lots of pictures and let people decide for themselves. I bought this piece at a moving sale. The lady was moving in with her daughter and had lots of beautiful things that she had collected for years. I will be listing my wonderful finds in the weeks to come.

Yup, I know what you mean. The reality is that all of the glassmakers in Murano made items like these.

When you try to research the style/date of a piece of Italian glass, mostly what you will find are the more elaborate art-glass "statement" pieces that have a much higher value. A bowl/ashtray like this would sell for $25-$40 in a store.

These were very common, but each was unique! I love them and collect them. I don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars. These are much more my speed!

Thanks for offering such a wonderful item on Listia. I'm hoping to get enough credits to be a viable bidder before this ends!

Second hand smoke kills way more than just the one smoking and the smokers are almost never smart enough to realize that

That bowl can be used for so many other things than an ash tray. What are we doing now, advertising that smoking is okay?

Are you being deliberately obtuse or are you just being very young? No one is endorsing smoking here. And, I'm not going to hate on smokers, either. People smoke or they don't, it's up to the individual. Lots of good people smoke and lots of good people don't. And, there are lots of other things people do that we might not agree with..but it is none of our business, including yours. Fact..people used these for ashtrays, especially 40 or 50 years ago when we didn't have all of the info that we have now about how bad smoking is for you. A lot of us smoked and a lot of us quit, and I know a lot of people that struggle with it every day. I get pretty tired of people like you judging others all the time, and why you feel that using my auction is OK to make your snide comments..escapes me. It is not OK. This is called auction interference and it is against Listia rules. And, it is also just plain rude.

This is a beautiful piece. Is there a crack on the bottom in pic 1? Please get back to me in this regards I'd appreciate your time.
Feb 24th, 2015 at 5:34:59 AM PST by

No, no cracks. This is an inclusion which occurs naturally between the layers of glas. Each piece is unique. If you look up the definition of inclusion, you will find a more detailed explanation. This piece has no chips or cracks.

I agree ... definitely Murano ... you can often look these up and try to figure out WHICH Murano-related glassmaker made it. I collect these and LOVE them ... I'll be back to bid!

I have tried but there are so many choices that I gave up! Lol. Plus, this is a vintage piece and the lady that I got it from just couldn't remember when she got it. Anyway, all things considered, I decided to let the bidders decide. I wish I knew more about it. Anyway, Ty for your nice comment. That's two of you that think it's Murano. It relieves my anxiety a bit. Of course I want the credits, but I want to maintain my integrity on this site even more, I'm sure you know what I mean.
