no ,no need to just by your minutes and download your time and yes its wifi capable ,worked with the car and home wifi service.

This may be a dumb question, but how do we obtain a local number, for the phone? Won't it be necessary to sign up with one of the cell companies, to obtain a phone number in our area code? Just wondering??

when I purchased minutes and activate the minutes card it ask by prompts for you to enter local area, then it picks a number for your area that is not used, then after your minutes are added you can go to phone info and see your no#, as long as you ad minutes before time expires depending on minutes you purchased you can keep your same no# I taped our no# on back of phone ,husband had poor memory, made it easier on him if some one ask what is no# hopes this helps
