The listing, 44th Engineer Battalion DUI has ended.
The 1397th Engineer Construction Battalion was inactivated 20 February 1946 on Okinawa. It was redesignated on 29 April 1947 as the 44th Engineer Construction Battalion and activated on 31 December 1948 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It then departed for service in Korea. The 44th Engineer Battalion landed with the historic invasion force at Inchon, in September 1950 and went on to serve on the Korean Peninsula for more than 50 years.
It was again redesignated on 1 April 1954 as the 44th Engineer Battalion.
The Battalion was assigned on 17 February 1992 to the 2nd Infantry Division, as an element of the Engineer Brigade in Korea. It was tasked to habitually support the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division during operations.

This is one of the last DUIs worn prior to the change from 8th Army, 10th UN Corps support in 1992.
