Description

The listing, *Vintage* Bar Items* Two~ Bottle Can Openers~Advertising~New England* has ended.

The winner gets these two antique openers. The silver colored one is a bottle opener. It says something in German that I can't make out well but it looks like 'Bitte ein Bit or Bis', the other is a bottle/can opener from Thomas F. Lynne Inc. wine and liquor merchant, 49 Cottage St. Easthampton Ma. Both are in good used, working condition. Bar collectables.

An alternate translation could be "Bide a little, please." i.e. Mind your manners! It's just beer! ;) I spent some time living in Germany - not enough to be fluent - but long enough to learn "bar humor" is a world within its own . For example, all proper German bars have a print/poster of Albert Einstein sticking his tongue out (actual photo).

"Bitte ein Bit" is the advertising slogan for Bitburger beer, which is the #1 draft beer in Germany. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitburger_brewery

'Please a til.' That's what I got from your post. Bitte = please. Ein = A. Bis = Until or Til.

Huh.... I wonder what that is supposed to mean? That was the best I could make out, but I don't get it, lol.

I'm guessing it's 'please, just a little bit.' I'm not really sure, but if you Google search the words. I'm sure you'll get your answer.
