Description

The listing, Genuine Ancient Roman Silver Antoninianus - Gordian III 238-244 A.D. has ended.

This auction is for a Genuine Ancient Roman Silver Antoninianus - Gordian III 238-244 A.D.
The Antoninianus was introduced by Caracalla in early 215, and is thought to have been valued at 2 denarii. The fineness of the silver content of each coin varied with political and economic circumstances. Even so, these coins are believed to always be between .900 and .950 Silver content.
The scans above are of the actual coin that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
As usual, I will start this auction off at 499 credits to allow for you, the bidders, to set the price.
I never clean or alter coins in any way, and do my best to allow you to see every detail and/or every blemish that the coins I list have, so that you can make an informed and confident bid.
I am no longer accepting GIN offers for my auctions, everyone now gets a shot at bidding.
Be sure to check out all of my other auctions that always run on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
Remember that all Listia rules apply.

Most of you know that I have been adding a rider to all of my auctions, stating that the post office is no longer reliable enough to get anything delivered in a timely manner and I wish that this was not necessary.
The post office has been off and on again when it comes to shipping lately and First Class Shipping has been making it to its destination within 1 week, and then the next few are not being scanned for days for some reason. I just want you to know beforehand that this will be sent the next available day after auction end, but I have no control over it after I do drop it off.
Thank you for your interest in my auctions and stopping by to view them.

the old roman coins that are made of silver always seem to keep that luster. I am not sure if it is because of whatever it is mixed with or something else, but they never seem to corrode or tarnish. this one is not quite as bright as the last one I listed, but a little toning only adds to it appeal I think.

Is there any paper work that comes with this beautiful coin claiming its the real deal ?

nothing whatsoever, for like all roman coins, unless it is sent in for grading and verification there never is. one thing though is that if someone is going to try and fake a roman coin, they would never use silver to do so when bronze is the norm for most roman coins. even this coin was changed from silver shortly after they started making them to bronze which makes this one a much rarer coin.
I do hope that bidders who are interested in these coins do some homework on them by looking them up, verifying what they are supposed to look like and learn of their history. I had to add an update to my description because of many who asked why it does not state that it is a Denarius and if it really is silver because these coins are more plentiful in bronze, not silver.
long story short... if you are looking for a coin w/COA it is not here.
I apologize for using your question to help slow down the personal messaging that I am getting about this coin. :)

the comment was on the Morgan, I thought it was there not the Franklin, but yes it was. I am a bit surprised, even though it had the grade to make it so. last I saw it was nowhere near that.

how about selling me a 1 oz silver eagle for 50.000 or 2 for 100.000 ???? that would be nice

it would be :) I do not have any Eagles right now... in the next week I will. but also, I can not sell anything just for 1 person, listia frowns on that and even had me suspended for a week for doing just that, even though it was for someone who had the post office lose their coin and I added a better coin for them with a GIN to make up for it.

I am on Kitco every day to check prices. it would be nice if Listia was back where it used to be and silver was at or real close to spot. not any longer.
