Description

The listing, Antique Late Victorian or Edwardian Photo Locket Gold Filled Room for Monogram has ended.

Here is a simple yet lovely Victorian or Edwardian locket. The locket isn't market, but it is either gold filled or rolled gold. The front of locket has engraved vertical lines with a small rectangular area for engraving a monogram. No monogram was ever added to this locket so it is ready and waiting for yours to be engraved. The interior of the locket is meant to hold photographs, but it is missing the glass and one of the frames. The existing frame is marked "S&S" (see last photo). There is a slight rosy tint to the locket.

The locket measures 1" in diameter which appears to be slightly larger than a quarter (not included in auction). It is in wonderful condition--it opens easily and snaps shut securely. Any dark areas you see in the photos are shadows and are not on the locket itself.

It reminds me of a pocket watch. All in all, it's lovely piece of antique jewelry.

Shipping is free to US Listia-verified addresses only. Please ask questions or leave comments--I like both. Thanks for viewing my auction!

nice piece! I adore Victorian "anything". i want to ask a question so i may educate myself on how to identify Victorian jewelry, i am wondering how it was determined this is an actual Victorian piece?what about this locket identifies it as Victorian and not Victorian style? plz don't misconstrue my question, I'm only asking so I can learn from you♡♡♡♡♡

Hi, thanks for your question/comment! I love collecting Victorian jewelry and other items, and there are many times when I get baffled by a piece and I'm not sure which era it belongs to. The design and clasp of this locket are in keeping with Victorian style. But the biggest key to dating this locket is the "S&S" mark on the one remaining frame. S&S stands for Sykes & Strandberg, jewelrrs who were in business in the late 1800s snd early 1900s. Anytime there is a maker's mark, it is worthwhile to research it. Sometimes nothing comes up, but sometimes you can find info to pinpoint the date of the piece. I hope this helps!
