Is the design on the an dark black color, because it is dirty??? if so do you think brass cleaner would bring out the dirt??? thanks

I got it at a estate sale this is how it looked I like patina on vintage items personal so I wouldn't/haven't cleaned it. I believe it is darkened to bring on the detail when it was made but I dunno. And the sickly friends thing I just was referring to when someone is hurt or sick you give them a bell in case they need something they can ring it from bed:) LOL now days we use our phone

What's the symbolism on the bell? It kind of looks like a wagon wheel or a steering wheel on a boat. Hope it's not satanic.

If it is antique its best not to clean ...decreases the value if you must polish use "brasso" this is a hand servant bell
