The listing, Large Burlwood Wall Sculpture Unicorn Winged Horse Pegasus Hand Carved 3-D Detail Gorgeous Detail has ended.

The over all size of this piece is about 16" x 16"
This is a beautiful hand-carved unicorn wall sculpture.
It is dated 1994 on the back.
Not sure of the type of wood but it has a reddish tint to it.
It is very detailed from the wings to the legs, head and even the tiny eye.
The artist must have spent a crazy amount of time on it!
It has a hangar for hanging on the back.
The pictures kind of speak for themselves.
Thanks for looking!

Me either! Whomever carved this was no amateur..this is a very professional hand carving. I live in the Pacific Northwest, we have a lot of artists that do this kind of work, but it could have come from anywhere! I wished the artist had signed it.

I'm throwing my hat into the ring on this one, too! What a gorgeous work of art and I agree, the artist should have signed it, but even so a sensational piece...reminds of something you'd see at the Kittery Trading Post - up in Kittery, Maine. :)

I've never been to Maine, but I hear that it's a lot like Oregon. I love the trading post gift shops around here. You get to shop for one-of-kind items, which I love. I wish I knew where this came from..could be anywhere the way things travel, now.

I have worked a lot with different woods in wood carving and making furniture and cabinets and I believe this to be bird's-eye maple. You can tell by the knothole patterns in the wood that are in the shape of a bird's eye. This is such a gorgeous piece! I will most DEFINITELY be watching and bidding for this one!!! Thanks so much for listing it!

Yes, I believe Oregon might be similar to Maine in the respect that it is a little bit lower and longitude and latitude and abuts the ocean but it is a new state and it is different, we in Maine are very very old tribes have been here for a long time... my family came here from England and then Canada and then down through Maine and then eventually ended up in Massachusetts so it's been a long haul for us :-)

I am a California native & Oregon is the BEST place to buy wood carvings & furniture along with the Amish up here..Now that I look at it again it does look like burlwood..hmmm..Get out Jimmy Hendrix & lets stare at this for awhile..lol..I love animal carvings from wood & rock too

Lol, there are so many naturally occurring patterns in this wood, that it took me a long time to notice the eye. I couldn't quit looking at it. I keep seeing more detail! I don't know what kind of tree this came from but the wood has a reddish tint in places, also dark and light colored wood. All I can say for sure is that it's a pretty piece. I bet someone out there knows exactly what kind of wood this burl came from. Wish I knew more about it. Someone donated this to a thrift store, here in town, and I was the lucky one to spot it.

This is stunning!! It does look like maple as we have so many of those in the north woods of Wisconsin and very popular for carving..Remember in the 70's when carvers were making those cool coffee & end tables out of tree stumps? What is a treasure you have & I hope your bids go thru the Listia roof..Watching & preparing for "winner envy"..lol..

That's really a sweet positive comment. I certainly do remember the 70's..really beautiful burlwood sculptures going for thousands of dollars. Here in oregon, we have a lot of artists who sculpture in wood. Roadside stands, mom and pop stores..some really unique things..I love the animal ones, especially the ones that are too big to bring in the house. I guess I just love anything made out of wood. I bet that Wisconsin is much the same..lots of trees there! Lol
