Description

The listing, 1889-O Morgan Silver Dollar 90% Silver has ended.

I haven't been on listia in a while, so I'm going to come back with a bang and list a couple Morgan silver Dollars right away. This one is an 1889-O. This coin is one of the 11,875,000 Morgan Dollars minted in New Orleans in 1889. There is no telling haw many are still around 127 years later. That number doesn't look very big compared to the 8,888,900,000 Lincoln pennies that were minted in 2015.

When the Morgan dollars were minted from 1878 to 1904 they were actually being used as currency unlike the silver dollars that are minted today. Its amazing to think about how many hands this very coin has been in and how many of those hands are now 6 feet under.

fun facts:

In 1889 this one dollar coin was worth a dollar.
In 1889 one ounce of silver was worth about a dollar.
in 1889 one dollar had the same buying power that $26.61 had in 2015
In 1889 $26.61 had the same buying power that $707.99 had in 2015
In 2015 one dollar had the same buying power as 4 cents had in 1889.
Today (4-9-16) one ounce of silver is worth $15.42 per ounce
In 1889 $15.42 had the same buying power as $410.26 did in 2015.

none of that really has much to do with the value of the coin, its just crazy history..

This coin is actually worth about the same today as it was worth in 1889, but that is only because it's a collectible.

a one dollar coin in today has less buying power than a nickel did in 1889.

I'm kind of wishing I hadn't just figured that out

Anyway, the coin pictured is the actual coin you will receive, see the pictures to determine the condition...blah blah blah

i am listing another Morgan dollar(1880) as well so check it out. It is prettier and will have a GIN price only

I will provide free shipping & tracking within the United States. any questions? just ask.
