Absolutely easy to grow.

This is the old standard yellow sweet corn that has been the home gardener's favorite since the beginning of the 20th century.

Plants grow to about six feet and produce seven inch ears loaded with eight to ten rows of sweet, plump, golden kernels. Very early, very tasty.

In 1902, 'Golden Bantam' was introduced and prominently featured in the Burpee catalog. Before 1900, most people thought that yellow corn was fit only for animal feed. Within a few years of the release of 'Golden Bantam'.

Americans favor yellow corn over white, black and orange sweet corn varieties.

Plant: 1" deep
Germination 5-10 days.
Space: 4 to 6 seeds together 1 foot apart.
Keep soil moist during germination
Better to deep water weekly rather than sprinkle each day.
Harvest: 78 days

I reside in California. I don't plant using hills. Our soil is sandy. I plant using a bowl method (inverted hill) or flat surface method.

*Backyard gardeners should plant seeds in a block using the square foot method for best germination.

I grow in sandy soil with a bit of manure added. Golden Bantam really don't need special nutrient soil. Like I said, I grow in sandy soil then I'll give them a bit of manure tea ever week or sometimes a shot of miracle grow.

Manure tea / Compost tea: Soak manure or compost in a bucket, barrel or trash can. Fill container 1/4 - 1/2 full manure, fill with water. Churn daily for a few days. Use the manure water to feed plants. Best fertilizer.Churn manure tea daily if not weekly. Churn until you see bubbles to create nitrogen.
