Description

The listing, 161 year old news paper The New York Herald - dated October 20, 1855 - Free Shipping! has ended.

Step back in time more than a century and a half by reading this Saturday morning, October 20, 1855, edition of The New York Herald. This is the entire newspaper not just clippings. It is 8 pages long on 4 sheets of 6 columns of tiny print. This was the typical style of that era but this paper has more pages than most.

Newspapers printed after 1799 and prior to 1860 are considered "Antebellum Papers" and were printed on naturally acid free "rag linen" paper so they held up much better than our newspapers of today. There are no illustrations but that is also typical of this era of Antebellum papers since illustrations didn't become popular until several decades after this paper was printed.

This one is only slightly yellowed. It has been folded. It has been stored out of sunlight. There are no missing pieces and all editorial is present. This paper is a nearly pristine example of a 19th century publication.

There are classified ads, advertisements with prices, and many fascinating articles.

It measures 22" by 15.5" (perfect for a poster frame so it won't be expensive to mount and display - no preserving needed since it's printed on acid free paper).

Bidding starts at zero and shipping is FREE! It will be shipped securely with tracking and insurance. It has been folded in the past and it will be shipped that way without causing a change in condition.

This is NOT a reprint or reproduction. This is an original newspaper, GUARANTEED.

I though stuff was printed on hemp paper which is why it lasts so long and in good condition.do u know if this is true?

Hemp paper wasn't used. A man named Hearst was a media mogul in his day and he owned paper mills (and a lot of the timber industry). He was behind the smear campaign against pot that started the whole prohibition thing (DuPont helped finish it off on the 20th century) All that happened a half century after this paper was made. There may be some small operation hemp papers out there somewhere but I've never seen any personally. All I have ever seen were printed on rag linen paper. Thanks for asking. It was interesting to google why it wasn't used.

ty for all the info!ive seen show on history channel bout hearst and his work but my memory isn't good.i love learning sumthin new everyday!if we was using hemp we would have all our rain forests back along with all the fauna and flora that's going extinct.and our books would last longer and clothes too.lots of things that is made from hemp would last for a looong time.not to mention medicinal marijuana.ty again for refreshing my memory.
