I wonder if this would have the opposite effect or loosen the curl if you already have curly hair

I have curly hair, and I have one of these myself..it works the same way a curling iron does, it still makes the looser, desired curl. Any time you use heat styling tools, your hair will take whatever form it is heated in, like a flat iron straightens etc

And actually, naturally curly hair holds the styled curl much better than naturally straight hair, which typically falls out of the curl rather quickly...it's always best to take a blow dryer when your hair is just slightly still damp and loosen your natural curl slightly n brush with a paddle brush as you finish drying it or even just by finger coming through it
