The listing, ANTIQUE, CARL SCHUMANN, PORCELAIN PLATE WITH OPEN WORK PRODUCED FROM 1900-1917 WITH FREE SHIPPING! has ended.
This plate is 10 inches wide and 1 3/8 inches deep. It has no chips, cracks, or crazing. A lesser quality piece of china almost 100 years old, most probably, would show one or more of those indicators of wear.
The Carl Schumann Porcelain Factory in Arzberg, Bavaria, Germany was founded in 1882. Plates that have open work like this are more labor intensive than those that do not. They are more costly and rare.
According to www.reference.com, "The value of Bavarian, fine china is determined by the condition of the china, rarity, the discontinued status, and the region. Research indicates that discontinued Bavarian china designed by Schumann and Johann Haviland is quite valuable. Another indicator of the value is the back stamp. Each piece of china is stamped to indicate the factory that produced it. In addition, to indicating where the china was made, the back stamp often signifies the time period".
Carl Schuman's factory was built under a castle. This back stamp is in the form of a castle with the letter "A" at the top and the letters "C" and "S'. The letters refer to Arzberg, Carl, and Schumann. He used a green back stamp from 1900-1917.
