This set is in excellent condition and from a nonsmoking home! I have 5 children that I homeschooled and I taught them all how to read with this set. It is very easy to use and goes step by step to help your child with sounds, words, sentences.

Alpha-Phonics, Sam Blumenfeld's classic phonics manual provides comprehensive phonics instruction in a simple, straightforward manner. Rules are presented along with lists of words, syllables, and eventually, sentences. A parent works through lessons with his or her child, working from the book.

I have lots and lots of items to list. . . ! I believe you’ll find all of my items high quality, in nice, clean condition. I have many things I am trying to get rid of. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to ship them for free. The labels, envelopes add up. So, as much as I would like to, at this time I’m not able to offer free shipping.

If it’s cheaper to use a flat rate box, I will. Also, I am SO HAPPY to combine shipping on any of my auctions that you win, as long as they are within 5 days of each other. But please remember that items that do not qualify for media rate can’t be shipped together with media items you’ve won that DO qualify for media rate.

After you pay shipping, I almost always ship the very next day and sometimes the same day, if you pay early enough.

Questions & Comments

The methodology is solid phonics. Blending is taught via the vowel-consonant method, with initial consonants added next (e.g., am taught first, followed by Sam and ham). Words are taught in families (e.g., an, ban, can, Dan, fan, Jan). However, many nonsense syllables are included in the early stages to help students develop phonetic fluency. Some of the practice lists of such syl1ables get quite silly as students read through syllables and words like gob, gac, gack, gad, gal, gag, gal, gam, gan, gap, gas, gat, gav, gax, and gaz. Students practice with quite a few such lists, but they also move quickly into reading actual sentences.

This program does not use pictures for key words as do many other programs. The print is very large and clear with no illustrations or other distractions. The intent is that students concentrate on the letters themselves so that they immediately recognize the sounds associated with a letter rather than taking an extra mental step to recall a key word associated with a picture.

Will this fit in a medium flat rate box or does it need a large flat rate box?

The box is HUGE; it does not fit in either. I have it packed in a huge flat priority box. I could probably fit it in a large flat rate box if I take all of the stuff out and ship it without the box it came in.

If you are ok with it shipping without the box, it is $6.18 anywhere in the US. If you would like the box it comes in it is more because the only box I have big enough for it is a priority box
