I cloud or just password locked

i worked for a Car Parts Place that bought totaled cars and found it in a crashed car.we were allowed to keep the contents of the car cause the owner bought it through auction..but its password locked and dont know about the icloud.

If found and locke d then there should be a name or number on screen if not you can call Apple or the service provider give them the IMEI number and return it to its rightful owner legally speaking you can not sell an item that u do not own legally if all else fails it needs to be turned over to your local police department it's against the law to sell an item that was found it must be turned into police whom will hold the item 30 to 90 days if no one claiimes it then the police will give you legal ownership of the item. But there's some out there that's likly looking for that phone and im sure it would mean a lot to them to have it returned many ppl offer rewards for lost items check your local online Facebook classifieds or Craigslist to but I'm certain turning it over to police will get it back to the owner as they would have had to file a police report for lost item. But none the less you can not legally sell or trade this item you can receive a court date and large fine for doing so and even more so it's against Listia policy you stated you found it there for you not the legal owner .... buyers be carefull if you buy this and some how try to have it turned on you could be looking at legal action taken against you even though you purchased it it's buying and reciving lost and or stolen goods. My father found a phone and kept it for 2 years then sold it buyer then tried to have it activated police showed up and gave buyer a ticket for reciving stolen goods and then came and have my dad a ticket for theft and ppssesion of stolen property even though he found the item it's considered theft in all states because he failed to turn item over to police for hold as stated above.
