The listing, Wide Vintage 18 - 24K Gold Gilt & Silver Designer Signed Damascene 11 Panel Bracelet has ended.
**An ancient technique Damascene is an elaborate process that takes skill, patience and a very steady engraver's hand but it produces exceptionally beautiful pieces of jewelry that combine precious metals on an oxidized background. In its true form, the technique brings together silver and 18K-24 K gold and that is the way it was practiced in Japan, with the Amita company being one of the most well-known producers of high quality Damascene jewelry in the first part of the 20th c.. Offered here is a stunning Amita bracelet comprised of 11 rectangular panels with figural and landscape inlay decoration in silver and real gold, possibly 18K, which is normal for Amita pieces but I haven't tested for fear of damaging the piece (the Japanese term for this type of inlay work is zogan). Views of mount Fuji, bamboo foliage, mums, and much more are marvelous and the execution of the designs beyond masterful! Even the back of the links are engraved (hori engraving); a veritable treasure from 1940s Japan. It dates in the 1930s-50s. It has a tongue and groove closure with safety chain, is 3/4in. wide, 6 & 3/4in. long, is signed "AMITA" and is in very nice vintage condition.
