I have been watching this and I'm not so sure that the above information is correct given there is no clear picture of the hallmark. This piece is definitely a gamble, but worth the payoff. In my research I've found that the "SG" hallmark stands for solid gold and "GS" is gold over silver. I've seen this too much in my research and nothing of the sort above. I'm definitely watching this and will be bidding. I'm sure the above will be too.

I found other gold chains online with this same "14ksg" mark and they describe them as gold plated in case this helps anyone

Marlie is right, its an Italian company that plates 14k over silver, they are known for their mark of "s" to follow the "k" with out a space reading 14ks... which silver is also a precocious metal and very collectible. Wonderful auction :)
