Beautiful Vase with an indigenous style turtle on both sides.
Measures about 5.5" tall and about 7" across. I picked it up in a flea market in Odessa, FL
Questions & Comments
Many world tribes use the turtle in art. The Australian Aboriginials use Totems as we do. The Some of the Native American at one time believed that God put our world on the back of a huge Turtle. In my tribe, the rattles & shakers that our men & women use in our sacred dances to God (The Great Creator) are made from turtles. Who every wins this item will just adore it.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful information! I do collect turtles and tortoises but i want to downsize items that can potentially break in a move. I also have a wonderful vintage Native wood carved piece with an eagle resting on a turtle.
Sweet Turtle! I would say Native American, southern parts. The back makes me think Native Mexico & south? I collect pottery mostly from the SW Native Tribes & Mine (Chickasaw & Seminole)
Thanks! You're right, it looks like southern Native American too, but it seems to have some similarities to Australian indigenous styles as well! At one time i focussed mostly on Northwest Inuit and Cree. I have some prints but I'm trying to reduce the bulkier pieces in my numerous collections (lol) since we are downsizing and space is an issue.
