Fun auction! "Sprinkling" the laundry was a wash-day chore. Permanent Press, non-iron fabric wasn't invented until the 50s. Irons didn't have the 'steam' option until the 50s either. Thanks for the fun memories.

It is a top for a sprinkler for doing laundry. They put water in a bottle, put this top on. Then sprinkle the clothes to dampen to iron. Used before dryers when you hung clothes on line to dry. I used one when I was you get and have several of them.

hi, i have no camera, the copy machine wont work on it, all i can say is the top of the cork is aluminum with a bunch of tiny pin holes for a shower of liquid to come out, it is a top used in a speak easy bar from the 1920s.

Oh, yes. I remember how excited my moth was when MIL bought her a steam iron in 1960. We didn't have a regular (as we all have now) washer ord dryer until 68. We still hung clothes on the line and they still needed ironing.

I had no idea that a device like this was used for cloths., we use to put a damp cloth over something really wrinkled, i remember my mother hanging cloths outside and in the basement, also she would put them over the back of one chair to another to dry.also cloths were hanging all over the bathroom to dry. what a brilliant device, thanks for the info.
