The listing, Antique Ferrotype or “Tintype” Photograph has ended.
Ferrotype photography was an early photography format which made photography available to more people, being both more economical and also becoming a quicker and even mobile process. This process using thin sheets of iron painted with photosensitive emulsion chemicals became popular during the American Civil War, as photographers packed up their studios and documented the battlefield’s heroes and casualties. Much like a Polaroid, there’s no negative and the image is directly captured on the surface of what becomes the actual photo, thus there are no additional prints and each photo is one of a kind.
