6" x 14" by 1" thick. i have not figured out it's purpose...

one piece slides in another... and also the two sides folds out

as pictured. wish i knew more about this object.

It looks to be a book prop. Something to hold a holy or scholarly book open while being used. I could be wrong. It's 4:40am. I sure love it, whatever it is. Great auction..

no. every guess gets us closer to it's true intent :) since it is very ornately carved... i'd go with the second guess of a book prop:)

I believe this is a book holder or book rack. It slides out to accommodate more books. My daughter has one something like this.
