Rasputin: The Role of Britain's Secret Service in His Torture and Murder by Richard Cullen

The murder of Rasputin, mystic, healer and advisor to the Russian Royal family, remains one of the most intriguing crimes of the last century. The official truth behind the killing is that Rasputin was murdered to remove his influence over the Tsar s wife. However, in 2004 former Metropolitan Police Commander Richard Cullen helped reveal to the world that British secret services were involved in the plot to kill the so-called Mad Monk , with a young officer called Oswald Rayner even firing the fatal shot. Going much further, Cullen has discovered a story of sexual tensions, torture and murder in which MI6 was up to its neck. With the help of modern forensic science, Cullen looks at testimonials, contemporary police and official reports, clothing and photographs, and forensically examines the crime scene itself. Along the way, he uncovers probable homosexual affairs between Rasputin and his Russian tormentors, and - in a premonition of contemporary events - the collusion and involvement of MI6 in his brutal torture. Agents at least looked on as Rasputin was tortured so brutally that his testicles were completely crushed, to make him disclose links with Germany (with whom both Russia and Britain were at war) that never existed.
