The Treaty of Perona (fr. Traité de Péronne) - an agreement on the transition of the Principality of Monaco under the protectorate of France. Signed in Peronne on September 14, 1641 by King Louis XIII of France and Prince Honore II of Grimaldi of Monaco. The Treaty of Peronne remained in effect until 1793, when during the Great French Revolution Monaco was annexed by France. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the principality was restored to its former borders under the protectorate of Sardinia. In 1861, Monaco returned under French protectorate, but lost more than 80% of its territory, losing two cities to France: Menton and Roquebrune.
