Description
WASHINGTON, D.C. Corp. ID Center, Thursday, 8:55 AM — Today history is being made! For the first time ever, a legally authorized government issue silver dollar has been struck to commemorate the World Trade Center and the new Freedom Tower being erected in its place. It's the U.S. territorial minting of the 2004 "Freedom Tower" Silver Dollar from CNMI. Most importantly, each coin has been created using .999 Pure Silver recovered from Ground Zero!

No, this is not a misprint. The silver used in each gleaming dollar coin is from Ground Zero! You see, when the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001, a bank vault full of .999 Pure Silver bars was buried under hundreds of tons of debris. After months of salvage work, many of the bars were found. Now, the same silver that was reclaimed from the destruction has been used to create the magnificent 2004 “Freedom Tower” Silver Dollar.

Not only is it only copper with a silver clad. It is not a legal "Dollar", and the courts have not yet been able to determine if the 2.5 micrometre of the 45mg of silver came from Ground Zero, either...

Guys PLEASE READ THIS if your getting this coin,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Tower_Silver_Dollar

i have one and it sticks to a magnet The distributors also purport that the coins have been struck using silver recovered from a vault in the rubble of the World Trade Center. The validity of this claim has not been confirmed. Distributors warn that the minting of the coin will cease once the quantity of recovered silver has been exhausted, and have therefore placed a limit on the number of coins that can be ordered per person. The coins are not solid silver, but are silver clad (0.0001 inch (2.5 micrometre) layer). Actual silver content is 45 mg, or 0.00145 troy oz.

Why did you hide my comment? I was only trying to clarify so everyone would stop criticizing the auction...just read the rim of the coin- it is a 2004 issue, so it will be marked either way as to what it truly is.

You have done a great job with this auction. Don't let them get to you. NONE of the commemorative coins are made from 100% silver. They are ALL plated with the silver. It is as real as any of the commemorative coins are because they did NOT make any out of 100% silver. If that were the case then they would be sold for hundreds of dollars. As it stands, when they made these coins, they were sold on TV for 19.99 each. It's a great coin and the memory of 9-11 is exactly what the coin is about, not whether it is 100% silver or not. I agree with Brenda, it is the memory that matters!
Good Job Brenda and

Gibbs would like to know what the other side looks like. All the pics seem to be of the same side. ThanX for offering this coin. That day touched everyone in some way. If it didn't, you simply didn't belong in this country. Don't let these synical bastards get you down!

Can you try to add another phot and make sure it is the side that DOESN'T show the towers. LOL

I am certainly in the running for this coin. I want it just as a remembrance piece. I want to place it in my grandfather clock curio cabinet along with my other very special things that I keep in there so I can look at them and think about what ever memories they hold, whether they are good or bad. I have WWII items in there because of my dad and mom and what that war meant to this world. I also have things my kids made me when they were little and now things are being added from grandchildren and all kinds of memorabilia. Great auction and glad people finally got the message about this coin and what it really means.
God Bless
