Each Lotus seed pod is hand collected with care from a clean and natural spring fed lake on property. It’s a lot of work but I truly enjoy growing and harvesting my own seed and I learn a lot about nature while doing it! No chemicals of any kind are used in the care, propagation or harvesting of my Lotus!

If you want them to germinate quickly from seed, gently file the hard coating until you reach the creamy color inside. Don’t file too deeply. Put the seeds in water and they’ll soon sprout little green shoots. Put some loam/clay mud in a pot then sink that in a bucket filled with water or in your pond. Gently plant the seedlings in the mud and keep covered with water.

You can also just plant directly in mud (no filing) and keep covered with water but it will take longer for the seed to germinate because the hard covering will have to soften and split before the green shoots can emerge. Nature will take care of it for you.

Lotus are a hardy Perennial and will freeze back In the winter but faithfully return year after year from the roots and from any dropped seeds.

These Lotus bloom from May to August (depending on where you live) with gorgeous creamy yellow flowers and they’re large and showy. Wonderful plants to grow because they’re so beautiful, attract all kinds of pollinators and have many uses.
