Description

The listing, 1955-58 Queen Elizabeth Castles set, U/VF, Scott IDs 309-312 or 309(1)-312(1) has ended.

Please find for auction a very nice set of 1955 Waterlow or 1958 De La Rue printings of what is known as Queen Elizabeth castles stamps (4). They are used and very fine. The 1955 and 1958 printings were done with the same die and are very hard to tell apart. I have verified the St. Edwards crown watermark on all four stamps. (see https://www.postalmuseum.org/blog/royal-cypher-appearances/)

My belief is that they are the 1958 De La Rue printing but this is far from definitive. The Waterlow set has an estimated total Scott catalog value of $44.05 and the De La Rue set has an estimated total Scott catalog value of $59.90. I believe they are the 1958 De La Rue set because of the perforations, but I do not have a definitive set of both to make comparisons. Either way, however, they have a good catalog value and come from a smoke free home.
