2007 George Washington dollar coin, missing edge lettering.
I purchased this coin when all the 'buzz' about the missing edge first happened sometime in 2007 or thereabouts. So it was slabbed close to coin being minted and released.
A 2007 George Washington dollar coin with missing edge lettering is an error coin that occurred when the coin did not go through the secondary step of edge inscription, meaning the date, "In God We Trust," and "E Pluribus Unum" were not stamped onto the edge, resulting in a smooth edge with no lettering, and was mistakenly released into circulation.
***Slabbed and graded by PCI Graded Coins.
PCI is generally regarded as a legit, if low-tier, grading company. Their Attributions were usually correct, but being pushed out of business by better technology of other services available.
*PCI has a long history, prior to internet, then being on the internet, different owners, then bankrupt, then becoming Dominion Grading Service different owners, DGS was operational from April 2008 to August 5, 2010.
No way to look up the certification that I know of.
*CoinWeek has a fantastic article on it. DOMINION GRADING SERVICE A DEFUNCT COIN GRADING COMPANY
